Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

DEI Outdoors was founded by Rachel Hailey, based out of the Berkshires. We offer in-person and virtual services nationwide and have served clients in over 20 states. We currently have trainers based out of the Northeast and West Coast and are constantly growing to help serve our client’s needs.

What makes us different from other DEI Consulting Firms?

Our team of facilitators has years of experience working in outdoor recreation, outdoor education, conservation, and the natural resource industry. We have first-hand experience with the issues that perpetuate throughout this industry and can offer your organization customized solutions that speak directly to your needs. DEI Outdoors' approach is rooted in compassion, discovery, connection, action, and inclusion. We believe that DEI work is culture work and that true inclusivity requires supporting each other in expanding our culture to allow all to feel secure in showing their authentic selves.

What does the process look like if we engage with your work?

To get started with our services, the first step is to either request an estimate or schedule a discovery call. This will allow us to better understand your organization's specific needs. Once we have a clear understanding of your requirements, we will prepare a customized proposal and scope of work.

The timeline for completing this process can vary depending on the organization and stakeholders involved. However, it typically takes between 1 to 3 months from the initial inquiry to a signed contract. We require booking at least 60 days in advance for in-person training sessions and 30 days in advance for virtual coaching or training sessions. This will ensure that we can provide the best possible training experience for your organization.

Our engagements usually start with an audit or assessment to create a roadmap for our work together and identify areas of action. Based on the findings, we will recommend specific learning modules and schedule monthly calls with the leadership team, DEI committee, or any other advisory board to guide your organization through our process. Typically, our engagements span 6 to 12 months, with a minimum requirement of three months to ensure we have established a strong foundation for future work. Our services offer a transformative experience and require organizations to be fully committed to long-term change. Read more about our pathways to transformation here.

My organization’s culture needs some help, but I am having trouble convincing the board of directors or my management team. Can you help?

We hear you! We understand that it can be frustrating and often discouraging not to have the support of your leadership team. We are happy to meet with the board of directors or management team to discuss our services in more detail and help them understand why this work is important. Please contact us directly for more information on how we can help support you.

What is the typical cost of our work?

We work with organizations one-on-one to create tailored plans that fit within their budgets. Our services range from $5,000 to $50,000, depending on the size and scope of work. We also offer reduced rates to small non-profits and organizations with restricted revenue.

We are a very small nonprofit with a tight budget. Do you know of any funding to help us out?

We will work with your organization and board of directors to create an affordable package that addresses your needs. However, we understand that nonprofits often have restricted funding. Please use this list to refer to potential grant and funding opportunities.
