The outdoors has long been a place for people to learn, recharge, and connect with their communities across the United States. However, not everyone has equal access to these benefits. Some groups have enjoyed activities like camping, hiking, paddling, and climbing, while others have had limited opportunities. This is due to several factors - many of which are not unique to outdoor recreation. Things like cultural factors or differences in opportunity directly impact people’s access to outdoor pursuits and create a gap in who benefits from the outdoors. We endeavor to bridge that gap, create belonging in the outdoors, and turn it from a ‘nicety’ to a necessity.
